If you are traveling the next few days, you could experience some weather-induced travel delays in some spots.
First, an ongoing active weather pattern could cause severe thunderstorms to erupt in the central U.S. each afternoon and evening through Monday. That could lead to thunderstorm delays at some central U.S. airports including the Twin Cities, Kansas City, Dallas, St. Louis and Chicago. It could also lead to flash flooding and heavy downpours, so slow down or consider delaying your trip if you plan to drive in those areas.
The active weather will shift to the Eastern and Southern U.S. by Tuesday, stretching from the Gulf Coast to the major Northeast cities by Wednesday.
This weekend, some showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to move into the East. That could cause some flight delays at the major East Coast through early Sunday.
And in the West, a round of snow is possible over the northern and central Rockies, Wasatch and Sierra again beginning Saturday night. So, be prepared for winter driving conditions over mountain passes, but there could also be some slushy roads in the lower elevations of the western Dakotas, Wyoming and Montana.
Keep in mind that the trees and grasses are in full swing in many areas, as well. Pollen sufferers will want to account for that in any outdoor plans. You can see how far north the pollen has gotten in maps at the end of this article.
