Reese Witherspoon posted a playful video on Instagram discussing her pal Jennifer Garner's "dark side"

"She's got a dark side. I don’t know what it is, but she has it," joked Witherspoon in the clip

Reese Witherspoon is poking fun at friend Jennifer Garner and hinting at her “dark side."

On Sunday, Jan. 18, Witherspoon, 49, posted a funny video on Instagram sitting on a chair in a living room, says to someone off camera, “You're not recording, right?” to which they reply, “No,” as she goes on to seemingly bash Garner, 53.

“Okay. Jen Garner is just so hard to work with,” says Witherspoon in the bit. The camera then pans to Garner sitting and making a phone call to Witherspoon.

Witherspoon then reappears on camera, saying about Garner, “People think of her as this nice lady from West Virginia and she, like, takes care of kids that are under served, she's got three kids, she makes her own Pop-Tarts — but she's got a dark side,” she joked. ”I don’t know what it is, but she has it.”

Garner is seen again trying to get through to Witherspoon on her phone. “She’s actually two minutes late for this phone call,” Witherspoon then says. "Like my time doesn’t matter.”

"Boss lady never misses a call," Garner says from her end.

Awkwardly, someone behind the camera then tells her that Garner just tried to call her. “Oh!” Witherspoon says, laughing. “She tried me twice!” She says while checking her phone.

Witherspoon wrote in the caption with a laughing emoji, “I love you, @jennifer.garner,” to which Garner jokingly responded, “A thousand pardons for keeping you waiting, Queen!”

In a 2023 interview with Allure, Garner opened up about being perceived as "nice" and how it has made it tricky for her to set boundaries with people.

"The problem with, 'Oh, she's so nice' is that when I have any kind of boundary, people think of it as much more than it actually is," she told the outlet. "The problem is being recognized on a day where I'm not so nice or when I have blackness in my soul."

Garner admitted that some days she "just can't do it” and lets the “nice” mask slip. “I scowl at people before they can walk up to me. I'm not perfect, and I don't think I'm rude, but I'm not good at being fake. I'm an open book of a person,” she said.

Garner stars in season 2 of The Last Thing He Told Me, streaming on Apple TV+ Feb. 20. The series, based on the Laura Dave novels, is produced by Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine.
