King Charles and Queen Camilla are getting a White House welcome as their visit to the United States begins.
On April 27, the King, 77, and Queen, 78, were welcomed by President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump in Washington, D.C., shortly after the royals' arrival by plane. The two couples greeted each other at the South Portico of the White House, a neoclassical, two-story portico with a grand double staircase overlooking the South Lawn.
After shaking hands and lining up to pose for photos, President Trump turned and put a hand on the King's arm to guide him inside. Queen Camilla and the first lady followed their husbands into the White House.
The four shared a private tea as they reunited for the first time since the Trumps paid a state visit to the U.K. in September 2025.

The first day of King Charles and Queen Camilla's visit will also include attending a garden party. The bash on Monday brought together a wide variety of guests representing the connections between the U.S. and the U.K. at the British ambassador's residence.
The British Embassy shared a look at the meal preparations for the first day of the royal visit on social media, sharing a video of the chef preparing "four kinds of tea sandwiches, scones, desserts and several British flavours from smoked Scottish salmon to British Beef" for 650 guests.

Trump, 79, praised the King in a phone interview with the BBC last week and agreed when asked if the state visit could help repair relations with the U.K. The nations have been at a distance amid the war in Iran.
"Absolutely. He's fantastic. He's a fantastic man. Absolutely, the answer is yes," the president said about King Charles.
"I know him well, I've known him for years. He's a brave man, and he's a great man. They would absolutely be a positive," he added.
The private tea and garden party began the official programming for King Charles and Queen Camilla's state visit to the U.S. The British royals' schedule is highlighting the shared history and bilateral relationship between America and Britain, marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.
